MASZ Mini-DRFD – Mini Demolition Remote Firing Device
Mini-DRFD is a UHF digital radio controlled initiation system designed for the remote initiation of munitions and explosives incorporating an integrated Remote Initiation Firing (RIF) mode.
A Timed Initiated Firing (TIF) feature is also available. Further information is available upon request.
A standard Mini-DRFD system comprises one transmitter and five receivers; each receiver is designed to initiate one firing circuit with a resistance no greater than 25 ohms. Receivers can be configured to be either individually or collectively addressed.
The operating range of Mini-DRFD is 2-3km in urban terrain, 3-5km in open terrain and 10-25km line of sight.
MASZ FIREFLY – Expendable Lightweight Remote Firing System
Firefly is a low cost, UHF radio controlled remote initiation system designed for combat explosive demolition operations. A ruggedized, compact, lightweight and simple to use system, it lends itself well for dismounted operations where a blow in place mission is required. Firefly is a system configuration name for a Mini-DRFD Transmitter used in conjunction with expendable Receivers.
Receivers are bonded to Transmitters wirelessly, this enables users to deploy with sufficient quantities of Receivers to suit a particular mission. Firefly provides remote firing and timer countdown capability, thus giving flexibility to the commander during operations, particularly, where a quick and easy countermine or explosive demolitions task is required on the battlefield.
MASZ STIX – Mini-DRFD Shock Tube Initiator Expendable Receiver
STIX is part of the MAS Zengrange Mini-DRFD family of products. It has a waterproof polycarbonate housing containing the electronics necessary to accept and interrogate radio frequencies commands, then disseminate correct information to the firing circuit.
STIX is expendable and designed for blow in place operations preventing the need for the operator to return to target to collect equipment, thus providing enhanced flexibility for the battlefield and preventing loss of mission tempo.
STIX is lightweight, compact and rugged lending itself well as an expendable remote firing system that is ideal for a wide range of operational tasking and environments.
The STIX unit is configured via the Mini-DRFD Transmitter and incorporates both an integrated Remote Initiated Firing (RIF) mode and a Timer Initiated Firing (TIF) mode.
Receivers are selected from stock and individually bonded via wireless connection.
Receivers can be configured to be either individually or collectively addressed enabling users to tailor requirements to suit a particular mission.
MASZ XRx – Mini-DRFD Expendable Receiver
The Expendable Receiver (XRx) is part of the MAS Zengrange Mini-DRFD family. It has a waterproof polycarbonate housing containing the electronics necessary to accept and interrogate radio frequencies commands, then disseminate correct information to the firing circuit.
The XRx is expendable; therefore it is placed in a position where it is destroyed on detonation providing enhanced flexibility for the operator. The XRx is lightweight and rugged device that is compact and simple to use, lending itself well as an expendable remote firing system that is ideal for a wide range of operational tasking and environments.
The XRx unit is configured via the Mini-DRFD Transmitter and incorporates both an integrated Remote Initiated Firing (RIF) mode and a Timer Initiated Firing (TIF) mode.
Receivers are selected from stock and individually bonded via wireless connection. They can be configured to be either individually or collectively addressed. Unfired receivers can be recovered and reconfigured as required.
MASZ MINI-DRFD POP M4.0 – Mini-Float Remote Initiation System
The Mini-DRFD Maritime (M) capability enhances Remote Initiation by providing user options when conducting overt or covert explosive tasks above and below the waterline using single or multiple systems. The clandestine capability allows Man Out Of The Loop (MOOTL) sub-surface deployment and detonation or timed sub surface to surface release allowing surface control of the event. Mini- DRFD (M) CONOPS support Naval, Amphibious and SF user groups throughout the joint environment.
Mini-DRFD (M) utilises UHF radio for long range RI. Re-usable and/or expendable receiver configurations within the housing provide operational flexibility. The system can be tactically transported safely and deployed to target in a safe state.
Upon expiry of the safe to arm period the receiver arms. The system can remain subsurface and execute a Timer Initiated Fire (TIF) or pre-determined sub-surface release. Post release the cradle remains at the target and shock tube is paid out to provide the ‘explosive train’ to the surface. Surface or sub-surface initiation of explosives can be performed by electric or non-electric means.
MASZ BIRIS – Battlefield Inoculation Remote Initiation System
BIRIS is a UHF radio controlled remote initiation system designed for the remote initiation of explosives and pyrotechnics for the purpose of battle simulation, inoculation and explosive range demolitions.
A standard BIRIS system comprises one transmitter and five receivers, with a maximum of ten receivers achievable.
Each receiver can initiate ten individual firing circuits, each with a resistance no greater than 25 ohms. Receivers can be configured to be either individually or collectively addressed.
The operating range of BIRIS is 2-3km in urban terrain, 3-5km in open terrain and 10-25km line of sight.
MASZ JANUS – Explosive Breaching Remote Initiation System
JANUS is a short range UHF radio controlled initiation system designed to initiate shock tube for Specialist Demolitions and Explosive Method of Entry (EMOE).
The system comprises one transmitter and any numbers of receivers that remain dumb until bonded to a transmitter. On completion of training receivers can be purged to clear configuration.
The system has 16 selectable channels with 10 individual addresses available per channel. The transmitter has the ability to initiate a single receiver, a group of receivers collectively or all programmed receivers simultaneously.

MASZ Flashonator – Detonator Simulator Flash Device
Detonator Simulator Flash Device for Training & Testing
Flashonator is a consumable product that simulates the use of an electric detonator in a demolition firing circuit, providing users with a safe means to conduct equipment testing and dry training of BIRIS and other handheld and remote firing devices. Such testing may be required during pre-deployment rehearsals and equipment checks or during equipment serviceability testing conducted at the stores facility.
Flashonator is designed for use where live electric initiators or heat generating one-use consumable flash-bulbs are not desired. It is purpose built to give a similar measurable resistance of an electric L2A2 detonator when connected to a firing circuit. When fired, Flashonator provides a white omnidirectional flash utilising an LED that confirms initiation of the firing circuit has taken place.
